Montgomery, AL -

The Alabama Shakespeare Festival brings holiday magic to the River Region with its spectacular production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, November 23 through December 23. Adapted for the stage by ASF’s producing artistic director Geoffrey Sherman, this production involves more than 30 actors donned in lavish 19th century costumes and performing a on  a magnificent set replicating the streets of London.

A Christmas Carol tells the tale of miserly Ebenezer Scrooge who experiences the Christmas Eve of his life after he is visited by the ghost of his former business partner. The influence of three more ghosts and a remarkable little boy, Tiny Tim, lead the spiritual recluse on an epic journey to redemption. A unique quality of the Sherman adaptation integrates the character of Charles Dickens into the story. In real life Dickens was an avid and respected amateur magician. In the play, Dickens literally adds touches of magic to his own timeless tale.

A Christmas Carol will feature ASF favorite Rodney Clark as Ebenezer Scrooge and Wynn Harmon as Dickens. Alternating in the role of Tiny Tim will be Charlie Hill and Liam South.

Others in the cast include Brik Berkes, James Bowen, Seth Andrew Bridges, Michelle Geisler, James Logan Hall, Greta Lambert, Jason Martin, Chris Pappas, Seth Rettberg, Laura Selmon, Billy Sharpe, Alice Sherman, Jim Staudt, David Umansky, Diana Van Fossen and Jillian Walker.

Of special note, mother/daughter cast members Diana Van Fossen and Alice Sherman will be performing together for the first time at ASF under the direction of husband/father Geoffrey Sherman.

Blount’s gift of a performing arts complex set in the 250-acre Wynton M. Blount Cultural Park. This program/project has been made possible by grants from the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.                                                          # # #
